Jwavy: Seattle’s Rising Star Redefining Music, Mentorship, and Legacy

Writer: Seattle Music is RealSeattle Music is Real

Seattle’s music scene has a powerhouse in the making, and her name is Jwavy. Born Jasmine Smith, she’s not just another artist—she’s a movement. From her poetic roots to billboard success, Jwavy’s journey is one of resilience, faith, and undeniable talent.

Growing up surrounded by music, Jwavy had front-row seats to the grind. Her father, Mr. Benjamin, was a local rap staple in Seattle, and her older brother, Maribased1, followed in his footsteps. Watching their journeys, she absorbed the ins and outs of the industry before realizing she had a voice of her own. It started with poetry—her way of processing life. But one day, after hearing her brother’s work, something clicked. If he could do it, why couldn’t she? A verse turned into a passion, and with the support of her family, Jwavy stepped into the booth and never looked back.

Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, Jwavy officially pursued music in late 2020 into 2021. Her sound is a reflection of her journey—real, raw, and filled with purpose. She’s not just making music; she’s crafting experiences that uplift and empower.

The road hasn’t been easy. The biggest challenge Jwavy has faced was the passing of her grandmother, Juanita. She wasn’t just family; she was a best friend, a source of unconditional love and wisdom. Losing her sent Jwavy into a deep depression, but faith pulled her through. Holding onto Jesus and believing in a reunion one day gave her strength to keep pushing. Now, every song she creates carries a piece of that love and legacy.

Her biggest musical inspiration? Without a doubt, her father. Mr. Benjamin’s guidance isn’t just technical—it’s rooted in genuine belief and love. “I know a lot of people don’t have that,” she says, “and I will never take that for granted.” But Jwavy’s purpose in music has evolved. What started as something she was just good at turned into a mission: To speak life into the world. To glorify what is good. To stay true to herself while giving God the credit. Her music isn’t just about vibes—it’s about motivation. She wants listeners to walk away feeling confident, inspired, and ready to take on anything.

Jwavy’s achievements prove she’s more than just talent—she’s impact. Some of her biggest milestones include billboards across Seattle and surrounding areas, a BET Jams feature for “Love Me” with Maribased1, multiple awards the 2024 West Coast Hip-Hop Awards, the Feed a million street buzz award and inspiring young Black & Indigenous girls through Seattle Cares Mentoring. For her, mentorship is just as important as music. Knowing she can motivate young women who were once in her shoes makes the grind worth it.

Jwavy’s songwriting process is both structured and intuitive. Every idea starts in her phone’s Notes app—whether it’s full verses, scattered ideas, or a concept she wants to explore. Sometimes she writes without a beat and finds the right sound later. Other times, she selects a beat first and tailors her flow to match. She treats writing like sewing—each piece has to be stitched together perfectly for the final product to shine.

If there’s one artist Jwavy dreams of working with, it’s the legendary Missy Elliott. Her futuristic yet relatable style, fearless creativity, and ability to make listeners move is exactly the kind of impact Jwavy aims for.

Jwavy’s debut album, WAVESZN is out on all platforms a work of art that speaks for itself gaining national attention, her sophomore  project Flawless Victory coming soon, is shaping up to be her most personal yet. It’s more than an album—it’s a statement. A deep dive into who she really is, while still bringing her signature feel-good energy. Every track has been carefully crafted, and she’s excited for the world to experience it.

If you think Jwavy is just about music, think again. Her daily routine is a masterclass in hustle and purpose. Morning prayer, worship, and devotion. Mentoring middle and high school girls at Denny International Middle School & Lincoln High School. Gym session for physical & mental health. Running her business, Jwavy Inc., and mentoring youth in photography, video, and creative skills. Studio time with Maribased1, where the magic happens. This isn’t just an artist—this is a leader, mentor, and future legend in the making.

Through it all, Jwavy remains humble. She credits her family, friends, mentors, mentees, fans, and God for every milestone. She knows none of this would be possible without their love and support. Seattle, the world better get ready—Jwavy is just getting started.
